Individual Folder password

No. In xp you don't password protect anymore as it offers less security. I
xp you turn off simple file sharing and then use security and permissions in
the file or folders properties to allow or deny access to the file or
folder. To turn off simple file sharing:
XP pro - explorer, folder options, view tab, uncheck: use simple file
sharing. Then, right click a folder or file, properties, security tab, set
as you like.

You can encrypt the folders you need to protect, in this case, that folder
can only be acceded by the user that has encrypted.

Other solution maybe using password protected ZIP files.

Word has the ability to save documents with a password. Click on save as
and there should be some security options, mine are under Tools in the save
as window. May be different depending on your version. Then no one can
open the document without a password.

How do you encrypt a folder? Is that an option under XP Home? Help only
seems to mention encryption in relation to wireless networks.

Note that to do so, you must be using an NTFS file system, and be on XP
Pro. XP Home only offers the default level of Simple File Sharing (in
which each user can see only *his* My Documents and not other people's

No - it is an advanced NTFS facility that is only in XP Pro. And is a
dangerous tool - you need to make a highly secure backup of the
encryption keys *off* the machine, or if you lose them you have lost all
access to the files, forever.
