InCD Loses Shortcut

Malcolm

I am running Windows XP HE and have a Lite On CD burner 48125W with
Nero 5.5 & InCD 3.51.91. All has been working well for about a year. A
couple of weeks ago I noticed a problem with InCD. When I right click
on a file and go to the "Send To" menu & choose InCD I get a message
indicating the shortcut is invalid. If I go to the "Send To" folder
under my user ID and recreate the shortcut to the "W" drive (that is
my burner) I can use InCD. However the next time I want to use it I
have to go the same recreation of the shortcut before I can use it.

I have un installed and reinstalled both Nero & InCD several times. I
have purged the registry of all instances of "Ahead; Nero;InCd" after
un installing. This has brought no joy. I don't know what caused this
because I don't use InCD an awful lot. It could have been a Windows
update but I am not sure. Has anyone seen this behavior or have any
suggestions????

Malcolm;
Has happened to me. If you use the Task Manager to shut down InCD, the Send
To link goes dead. The only solution I can see is to leave InCD running all the
time. I don't do this, I worry about it when I want to use InCD. I put up with
the problem. :blush:)

Hi Wesley,

I normally do have InCD running all the time. I leave it set to run in
the systray during startup. My problem is with it running when I do a
"Send To" I get a flashlight looking for the path to "W:\" ???

By any chance do you have MS hot fix 821557 installed? If so try uninstalling it and see what happens. If the shortcut now works the solution is:
Shortcut to the 3 1/2 Inch Disk Drive or to the CD-ROM Drive Does Not Work (call MS for the fix)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;824143, then to reinstall 821557 and the file you will get from MS.

It worked for me and several others that I have passed this on to.

Jeff;
I've had 821557 installed since 13 August. My Send To 3½ Floppy (A:)
shortcut works. I'll have to uninstall 821557 and see what happens. Thanks
for the tip.

Thanks for the suggestion but I tried it and the floppy & CD ROM drive
are OK. The problem only happens with the burner when using InCD.
Using the burner with Nero is fine. But naturally the Ahead software
web site has nothing.
