Someone tried installing Iomeaga ZIP on my win 2000
machine. Now the PC will not boot. I get the blue screen
with: "STOP 0x0000007B Inaccessible_Boot_Device" Error
Message. MS KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;306949 state to boot w/ cdrom do recov console and type
disable imgatapi. but i get response: registry for the
imgatapi service cannot be located. Any Ideas??? I tried
repairing the win 2k install, and even tried the iomega on-
line chat. nothing worked yet.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated...

Hi, Ron.

I just posted a response to your post in the other thread - then I saw this
one. Looks like your problem is NOT the "same problem" as in the other
thread; it just produces the same error message.

I know nothing of Iomega Zip drives and controllers. I know even less of
HOW someone might have tried to install it on your computer - and what might
have gone wrong.

The F6 procedure I mentioned in my other post is how to install drivers for
the "boot device". If you planned to use the Zip drive to boot your
computer, you would need that procedure. However, if you plan to continue
booting from your hard drive and use the Zip drive only as a secondary
drive, then the process should be much simpler. Did the Zip drive come with
instructions? Is there any information under Tech Support on the Iomega
website?

The exact procedure for installing any device (HD, Zip, CD/DVD, etc.)
depends on the interface that it uses (IDE, SCSI, parallel port, USB, etc.).
First, make sure the drivers for the interface itself are installed and
working. Then, if the device needs drivers, too, install those using either
Device Manager or the CD or floppy that came in the box with the device.
And be sure the drivers are Win2K versions, NOT Win9x/ME versions; the NT
platform handles hardware so much differently from the DOS platform that
those drivers almost certainly cannot work.

At this point, you probably should UNinstall your Zip as completely as
possible and start fresh. The Recovery Console's inability to find imgatapi
service suggests that something went wrong in the attempt to install it. I
hope someone with Zip experience will jump in here and give you more
specific guidance in this.
