Rick

Greetings! I have a Dell notebook running WinXP Pro, IE
6.0 with all applicable Service Packs and updates.
Recently, an interesting but frustrating problem has
surfaced: at seemingly random occasions, when I click on
either a desktop shortcut to a website or one of
my "Favorites" websites, nothing happens. Actually the
cursor stays as the little hand, almost like
Windows "locks" up. I have discovered that if I open Task
Manager, choose the iexplorer.exe running under
Processes, End Task on it. Then, the website opens!
Coupla observations: sometimes there are several, as in 5-
6 iexplorer.exe processes running and I have to close
them all, then IE will open the chosen website. Also, it
seems like this happens most often after a time of
browsing the web, like the iexplorer.exe is
not "releasing" or closing and locking up IE. Any ideas,
suggestions, comments??? Thanks! God Bless!

Real quick note, run AdAware and SpyBot to check that a BHO or third-party
toolbar is not messing with Internet Explorer. I've run into this problem
with lockups and multiple instances of IE running and it was attributed to a
toolbar running (can't remember which one).

Thanks, Rick, for the reply! I do keep Ad-aware
(including Ad-watch) running and updated on my system.
Lately, I have noticed that it almost always occurs when
I chose to open a "Favorite" from my list, not just
typing in a url. Also, there is only one iexplorer.exe
running in Task Manager and when I "End Task" on it; then
the website I had clicked on in the Favorites will open.
Strange??!!! I have Norton SystemWorks 2004 with all
updated AV defs and have scanned with no virus etc. Just
can't figure it out...???
