I was having no problems with my XP system until today!
I tried to link from an Outlook message and it took about
20 minutes for my IE6 SP1 (with all updates) page to
load. Now I have kept up with all the updates, scanned
for viruses, and used Spybot to get rid of a lot of
crap. Someone told me that IE6 is probably corrupt but I
have tried to reinstall but that doesn't seem to work.
Any suggestions?

redsteel,
"used Spybot to get rid of a lot of crap"
Most likely you still have some leftovers .........

You may need to clear your TIF as you may have a corrupt file there.

Close all instances of OE and IE
Control Panel | Internet Options | General tab
Click the "Delete Files" button, when prompted place a check in:
"Delete all offline content", click OK
Click the "Clear History" button, click OK.
Click the Settings button, adjust the TIF size to 50 mb, click OK
