Hello Everyone,

After my Windows 2000 Professional workstation was patched by KB831167
and now my Explore freezes, uninstalling the patch takes care of the
problem. Has anyone ever run into this problem before? It seem this
happens randomly but not consistently so I'm not sure if patches like
KB831167 need to be applied in a certain order?

Thank you

my Explore freezes...

Internet Explorer? Windows Explorer?

Did you install Q831167 via Windows Update?

Was your anti-virus application disabled and were all other running programs
(e.g., other IE windows) closed prior to installing it?

Pa,

Windows Explorer, and the update was by SUS (Software Update Services)
and yes the anti-virus application (CA Inoculate 7) was running during the
install.

Thank you

Q831167, which is only for Win2K-SP2/SP3/SP4, requires a reboot. Were the
machines rebooted?

It's advisable for most users to disable the AV app and close all other
running applications (e.g., IE) prior to installing anything, including
Windows Update downloads.

I'd try reinstalling Q831167 in the above-environment, making sure the
machines are rebooted.

Those who use and are familiar with SUS [or its unfortunately-named
successor WUS] may have other pointers. Try posting to this WinUp-specific
newsgroup, Alex, for excellent advice:

Also see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831167 for some workarounds if
installing Q831167 isn't possible.
