Icons are overlapping

Hi;
I have a unit running xp pro sp2 in which the icons are spaced on the
desktop in a manner in which they are overlapping. I have gone and reset
items in the advanced portion of the appearance area of the desktop. Is there
a way to reset the desktop to its original settings after sp2 was installed?

Or anyother items I could check?

What exactly did you 'reset'? The items that control this are in Display
Properties under the advanced button of the Appearance tab, listed as Icon
spacing (Horizontal) and Icon spacing (Vertical). They shouldn't be reset,
but instead set to a value that avoids the overlap. However, the values are
only relevant if icon layout is automatic.
