i just installed xp pro on an old compaq presario 5020 (including format drive to FAT32-Full) now i got a prompt while trying to start up that i am missing "NTLDR". I cannot start my computer and when i try using my boot disk the screen tells me "Disk I/O error Replace the disk, and then press any kkey" I don't know what to do! please help as soon as possible!!!

If you get an error that NTLDR is not found during bootup,

For FAT32 partitions:
It is much simpler than with NTFS.
Just boot with a Win98 floppy and copy the NTLDR or NTDETECT.COM files
from the i386 directory to the root of the C:\ drive.

For NTFS:
Insert and boot from your WindowsXP CD.
At the first R=Repair option, press the R key
Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair.
Typically this will be #1
Enter in the administrator password when requested
Enter in the following commands (X: is replaced by the actual drive letter that is assigned to the CD ROM drive).
COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C\:
COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
Take out the CD ROM and type exit

Jeezuz CHee-rist how many times are you going to post the same request under
different threads ??!! Try one thread, not three With a more explanative
title than "uh oh" or "I need a real Genius", etc etc.

Fishing, are we... it is much easier to post one message & cross-post it to
a few different newsgroups if you want to reach a bigger audience.

....D.
