i cant get my pc to go into stand by

when i go to start then shut down, as usual the panle
comes up but the stand by option is dimmed out and
unclickable shutdown and restar work fine though.

Any suggestions

Simply use shutdown. Takes just about the same amount of time to start up
as to return from standby.

It simply may be that your BIOS does not support standby, so shutdown and
logoff will be your only options.
