A friend showed me today that every time he went in IE6 it
would redirect him to www.HotNetSearch.com. I reset his
default home page and restarted IE and the home page had
reset itself to the hotnetsearch webpage. I then noticed
that he had a toolbar that had the offending webpages on
it and when I right mouse clicked on the toolbar there was
an extra entry that had no name but had a check mark next
to it. I found a registry key about gwfb and when I went
into this it had all the offensive names and sites
listed. So I deleted it and lo and behold it came back.
How do I find the source of this and what registry key
holds the toolbar entries for IE?

Thanks

Jon,
Go to: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware]

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic", copy and paste hijackthis.log into your new message.
