I am using pcAnywhere 11x and I noticed that the ports are closed. How
do I open them? I am running Windows XP Media Center.

Thanks

It depends on what firewall you are using. Since you didn't say, I can't
give you a specific answer. If you are using just the Windows firewall,
here is a link to help you:

If you are using a third-party firewall and/or router, look in the
manual and/or Help files.

Unless there is a firewall running I don't know about, there is none
running. What I have noticed is that when I connect with any network
computer, the connection is allowed, but If I try to access home
computer from work or the other way around, it doesn't work.

All I want to do is connect. I don't know how to open the ports. I
vaguely rememeber a proceeddure that allowed me to open a port and name
it, but I don't remember where I saw it.

As I said, you either have a firewall or are using a router. pcAnywhere
needs two ports opened. You open the ports by allowing the connections
in either a firewall or a router. If you don't have a firewall, then a
router is probably involved and you open those ports and forward to the
desired pc by going into the router's configuration. The work computer
undoubtedly has a firewall (unless this is your own office and you set
it up yourself) and has those ports blocked. You need to talk to your
IT Dept. about that, although unless the work you want to do is really
important and/or you are a boss, don't be surprised if IT says "no".

In your firewall open the default ports 5631 and 5632 (or others as defined
in preferences).
In case of use of a hardware router, make sure Port Forwarding is on and
both ports are not closed by the hardware firewall.
