how to open a .docx file with 2003 word

i have windows xp
using word 2003
i've just downloaded a file with the .docx extension and need instructions
on how to view this document

A JoAnn mentioned you can ask the author to save it in .doc,
Word 97-2003 format or you can may want to add the beta converters to try out (beta can mean 'slightly undercooked').
