How to enable sound to play through internal pc speaker in XP

We have newer pcs (2.4 Ghz Windows XP) that have sounds cards built
into the motherboard. We want folks to hear a sound for new mail, but
we don't want to roll out pc speakers everywhere.

Does anyone know how to get XP system sounds to redirect to the
internal PC speaker?

The internal speaker is only for beeps when computer starts up or in DOS.
You have to plug speaker into sound card to get sounds in windows.

For Windows 3.1, 95 and 95 there was a speaker driver that worked. For
Windows XP there is a driver available from www.soundcard-drivers.com. Look
for file Cat1003e.zip on their website. I was not able to install it but it
probably works.
