Hi
1. I'm getting a second computer for home and i remember seeing somewhere that you can install winxp on 3 different machines(3 times). Is this correct? or do i need a copy for each machine
2. If i can use the original xp disc is there any thing special i need to do to install the other machine
thanks.

One copy and one license PER PC... for ANY VERSION of Windows. So you need
to purchase one version of Windows for EACH COMPUTER.

You are thinking about Microsoft OFFICE where you may install on one desktop
and one notebook providing both are owned and operated by the same person
and not used simultaneously. This is increased to three installations if
you have the Student and Teachers edition of Office 2003. The Student and
Teachers edition of OfficeXP is limited to a SINGLE installation.

The PC will normally come with WindowsXP preinstalled... unless you build it
yourself.

It is 1 license, 1 machine. You will not be able to activate XP on more than
one machine.

Greetings --

As it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating systems,
it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA, if not
technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each computer on which
it is installed. The only way in which WinXP licensing differs from
that of earlier versions of Windows is that Microsoft has finally
added a copy protection and anti-theft mechanism, Product Activation,
to prevent (or at least make more difficult) multiple installations
using a single license

You can, however, buy additional licenses, assuming you have a
retail license. Naturally, Microsoft cannot sell additional OEM
licenses. Be aware, however, that you'll probably pay more this way
than you would if you were to buy a second copy of WinXP from a
discount retailer; Microsoft will only offer you a 15% discount off
their MSRP.

No it isn't. Each machine needs its own copy (see intro at
www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm). While you can get a small discount on
additional licenses, buying additional copies at a discount store is
probably cheaper
