how do I use graphics in a drop down list in word or excel

I want to create a report - the answers to some of the questions need to be
in a drop down list but some of the answers are not text but graphics

Sorry, that's not possible in Word. Dropdowns are text only. You'll have to find
some other way to present graphics, possibly with check boxes next to them.

What version of Word are you using? If you are using Word 2007 then you can
use a Building Block content control to supply such a list.
