How do I turn off MS Exchange

Whenever I open an email, I see that the attachment (if there is one) is
opened by Exchange and I can't get Outlook 2003 to stop using Exchange to
open said attachments. I don't have Exchange installed on my system (at
least, on purpose) and would like to open attachments normally. Config upon
request.

Sorry, can you make that a little bit more clear? What kind of account,
if not Exchange? What exact error message are you getting?

Isn't this a repreat posting? Exchange is a MAIL SERVER, it does NOT "open
attachments".

As for repeat posting, yes. I never got a satisfactory answer. For some
reason, Exchange is what pops up when I click on an attachment and Exchange
is what my computer uses to view attachments. How do I inform my computer to
stop using Exchange? It's irritating, to say ythe least and makes my computer
drag (occaisionally hang)

Sometimes when I click on an attachment, Exchange pops up and then when I
click on the attachment again (because Exchange didn't open it) I get an
error message: the set of folders could not bo opened. And: the sorce
application could not be startted. Both of these messages are inside a popup
with the header: Microsoft Exchange. So please don't tell me I don't have
Exchange on my machine.

then I suggest you get in touch with your IT dept as to what exactly is
happening. As stated MANY times in answer to your previous posts, MS
Exchange is a MAIL SERVER and does NOT "open Attachments". How can it? It
has NO ability to "open attachments". All it does is act like a telephone
exchange for emails.
The only other option is that you actually have an application called
"exchange" on your machine which is some sort of word processor/spreadsheet
application. I've never heard of anyhing called "Exchange" other than
Microsoft Exchange.

I think this is a good time to ask you for your system specifications.
What version of Windows; what version of Outlook.

I seem to remember that a VERY long time ago, what is now Outlook
Express was called Microsoft Exchange - on Windows 95? Could this be
the case?

No, that was the old Exchange client that came with Windows messaging and
superceded Microsoft Mail. Outlook Express was formerly Microsoft Internet
Mail and News. It was never Outlook or Exchange.

Yes there was, but it STILL won't open an attachment! How could it? it was a
MAIL program, not a word processor or spreadsheet app!
This has all been talked about at great length before. The OP just won't
accept that a MAIL app, whether client or server, cannot open an attachment.
