I don't need to or want to reinstall the entire OS with all those service
packs and updates. It took me 2 months to get to this point and now I notice
that the Help and Support Center module/function is incomplete. SHows blank
space next to the checkbox where the choice "Search Knowledgebase Articles"
used to be. I cannot seem to locate anything in the KB about installing that
portion/module of windows. There are no shortcuts that I can find either
anywhere that would help point me to an application file on the drive or
anything else. It is of No Help at all as it turns out. I checked Add
Remove Programs in Control Panel... Help and Support Center isn't listed as
one of the Windows Components. My Help and Support Center functionalitly
seems to keep reverting back to only 15 items displayed and the other
advanced search settings that I try to make stick will not stick. What's up
with that?

To reinstall Help and Support:
Locate the file called: pchealth.inf
This is located in C:\Windows\inf
Right click and choose install.
Make sure you have your WinXP CD ready.
Note: The folder is hidden by default.
Click Start, then select Run and type in: control folders.
Go to View: Show hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide extensions for known file
types.

Why doesn’t Help and Support work?

You don't need to reinstall. The fix is straightforward. Set your folder
view to show hidden files and folders. Navigate to C:\Documents and
Settings\[your profile]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\HelpCtr
and delete both the files in this folder. Open Help and Support and the
problem will be fixed.
