How do I identify 'Prescott' CPU?

There has been chatter lately about a problem confined
to a CPU identified as 'Prescott'. There was also earlier
chatter about a certain 'stepping' of an Intel CPU (in
regard to SP2).

MY QUESTION is: How do we find out whether any
given machine contains a CPU of a certain 'stepping' or
'code name'? i.e. is there a Win-XP command (or registry value)
that would contain this info?

(These days, we certainly do NOT want to try taking the
large heat-sink/fan off of a desktop-machine's CPU to
peer under it! And, a laptop, forget even trying to view
the physical CPU!)

(Also, invoices from Gateway or Dell that come with a new
machine do NOT appear to have info at this level of detail.)

Is there a uniform way to locate this very-detailed data?

TIA...

Hi

See the "MORE INFORMATION" section here:

Also, as far as I know, Dell does not have any computer models that
are affected by this issue...
