I recently downloaded windows XP Pro. on an IBM Aptiva. It
downloaded, shut down and restarted. When it booted back
up, it was fine at first, then went to a fuzzy screen with
lines. How do I uninstall XP or get it back to normal if I
cant read anything on the screen [when I shut it off and
reboot, it does the same thing - loads normal & then goes
to the fuzzy screen].

Thanks in advance,

D.C.

Start XP in SafeMode (F8) and uninstall the video drivers. Reboot and
reinstall video adapters and monitor drivers if you are not satisfied with
XP defaults.

You downloaded it? Doesn't seem right. Who did you buy it from? MS never
has allowed a download for installing a new OS. You didn't install from a
CD? IF you downloaded from the net, I think you have gotten taken for your
money...........

A suggestion: boot into Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 function key while
Windows is starting up).

Safe Mode comes up at 640X480 at 60 Hz, which most monitors can accept.

Go into the Display control panel, and set a resolution/refresh rate
combination that the monitor supports. (You can choose 640X480 at 60 Hz.
That's not very usable, but you can change it from within a regular Windows
boot.)

Reboot into normal XP. Change the resolution and refresh rates to ones that
the monitor can use. It may be helpful to check the "hide modes that this
monitor cannot display" on the Monitor tab.

Good luck.
