Help! WinXP forgotten password

Dear All,

A friend of mine has forgotten her logon password
and she can go until the welcome screen and no further!
(Even in safe mode a password is required)

Her computer is now useless!

Is there any easy way to bypass the welcome screen
and logon password and get in windows XP
then delete the password?

Please help or her computer will remain useless

P.S. I thing MS should provide a way that newbies
that forget their logon password can logon
with their original windows XP CD and their
product key number
Having to reinstall windows XP is horrible
for a newbie.

She did not created a password reset disk.

The prospect of "clean installation of Windows XP, re-create all user
accounts, and reinstall all of your programs."
is horrible..

didn't you even set the administrator password, if not just click control alt del ,to use the old style logon screen and type the user name as " administrator " and password leave it blank , you will able to logon on with adminstrator then reset the password.
if you can't remember that password for administrator
and if it is FAT32 format
then delete the c:\windows\system32\config\sam copy the c:\windows\repair\sam back to it

This is where the reserve, emergency account called Administrator comes
in. Boot, hitting F8 as BIOS info goes to black; take Safe Mode, There
will then be an icon for Administrator on the Welcome screen. (If not,
hit CTL-ALT-DEL twice and enter the explicit name
Administrator
and leave the password blank)

In that, Start - Run the line
control userpasswords2
where you can select any account name and Reset Password
