Help- Control 'details' file view in xp

Hi, I've looked here in the ng first but like others it seems, what
I'm looking to do is control the 'details' view in explorer in xp.
With other things, after w2k, microsoft has changed things again yet
the solution must exist in the registry with applicable changes. I
have found selecting choices here I want and using- tools...
options... etc, does work, but can these things also be manipulated in
the registry? Examples trying to solve below-

-sort files by date: xp places the newest year first in ascending
order, then the next year in ascending, etc. this no longer truly
runs top to bottom with most recent first or last, etc, etc.

-For multimedia files and video in particular: dimensions, duration,
are 'extra' properties and wish to turn this off.

-For all files: the 'date modified' is turned on yet, would prefer
'date created' instead.

Appreciate any/all replies.

Not sure about registry changes you could make to change things globally
but you could try the following:-

1) Open the folder which you wish to customise.
2) right click on the column header e.g. where it says "Date Modified"
and from the drop down menu select the bottom entry "MORE..."
3) tick the entries you wish to be displayed e.g. "Date Created" and
un-tick everything else.

to arrange items in the order you wish simply LEFT click on the relevant
column header.

The "Show in Groups" option is sometimes useful for the folder view,
e.g. if you wish to find all files modified in the last week, or all
files with the same extension etc.

Hope this helps, if not please reply to this news group.

Hi,

Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)

Change the Sort Order Back to W2K Style (Line 107)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

In an Explorer Window, View Menu, click Choose Details to select the
columns you want. Select Detail view and Arrange Icons by - check
Autoarrange.

Now click in the title header of the column you want sorted on, click
again to reverse the sort.

Set up any other items that you would like by default (eg View - Status
bar and Toolbars, size and position of window then go to the Tools menu
and click Apply to all

db, kelly, alex,

-thanks for the info and the repost of the 8000 reg tweak- picked that
up may have been your post, and thnx. For this gui question, I *know*
it exists but would be more into desktop development yet, unknown if I
could ever turn the answer up. Meanwhile, did do this- like others,
setup with 'created' and the multimedia properties 'off' (that was
really slowing down directories with hundreds of files -big pc video
head-, did the tools/apply and things have stuck like have for others.
This is a good solution for now and thnx for all the replies.
