Hi Wayne :)

I'm going to take a guess that had IE6, so try the following and see if it
will help. After the repair/reinstall, you should visit the Windows Update
site and install all the updates it says you need here.
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp:

Repair/Reinstall:

Be sure that your AV and firewall is disabled before starting:

The Internet Explorer Repair Tool
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_5.htm#repair_tool

or.........

If you have not already done so, then you might try a repair of IE6 as
follows:
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...port/kb/articles/Q194/1/77.asp&NoWebContent=1
or

If this does not work then you may have a hijacker, malware, spyware or
parasites on your system causing this problem. Thus, in addition to running
your updated anti-virus program, you should do the following to be sure none
of these are present on your system. Although you may have already run one
or more of the programs, please do so again according to the instructions
below. Some variants of malware can replicate themselves over and over if
not removed properly. Please follow all instructions carefully to be sure
your system is
thoroughly cleaned:

Can't even get into my "Settings" to ask for an install!!! What happened?

Hi Wayne :)

If you have or can get access to another computer, you can review the
information. However, if you can not to that, then here are a few bits of
information that might help get you at least repaired:

To use the Internet Explorer Repair tool: 1. Click Start, point to Settings,
click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
2. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 5,
click Add/Remove, click Repair the current installation of Internet
Explorer, and then click OK.
If the Internet Explorer Repair tool detects an error, you may receive an
error message that is similar to the following error message:
Internet Explorer 5 cannot be repaired. Please reinstall Internet Explorer
5.
If you click Details, you may receive an explanation for the problem. For
example, you may receive any of the following explanations:
Internet Explorer 5 cannot be repaired due to the following errors:
File file_name is missing.
-or-
Internet Explorer 5 cannot be repaired due to the following errors:
Version 4.72.3110.0 of file file_name exists but needs to be greater than
5.0.808.1000.
To resolve either of the problems that are associated with these error
messages, it is recommended that you reinstall Internet Explorer 5.

NOTE: The result of the repair process is logged in the "Fix IE Log.txt"
file that is located in the Windows folder.

The Internet Explorer Repair tool repair process may vary slightly,
depending on the operating system that you are using.

For the file verification procedure, the version number that is listed is
the minimum version of the file that is required by Internet Explorer 5. If
there is no version number associated with a file, the existence of the file
is verified but the version is not verified.

Hi Wayne :)
Can't even get into my "Settings" to ask for an install!!! What happened?

I'd say you have some serious scumware on your system, and that you need to
run the programs that I posted to try and clean them. Then perhaps you can
get access to the Internet. As you can not access the Internet from the
problem computer, then here is what you need to do. Even doing a repair may
not help if your system is seriously infected:

If you can not download these programs from the Internet, if your PC
has CD read capabilities, go to another computer with CD-ROM burning
capabilities. Create a folder on the hard drive of the other computer called
HOLD, download the programs to that folder, then burn that folder to a CD.
Copy the HOLD folder to your HD and then install the programs from there
and run them. After you have IE access again, update all programs where
possible to get the latest definitions and run them again in Safe Mode to be
sure there are no lingering items on the system.

Then follow the removal instructions in the information I provided in the
last part of my reply.

Hope this helps
