Hard Disk failure?

I am running Win Xp Home with a 100MB IBM HD - NTFS formatted

Yesterday I defragged (completed OK) and set scandisk to run on
re-boot. This apparantly hung even though it said drive was OK. i.e.
it did not boot up. So the only option was to switch off.

When I switched back on I got a "disk error unable to read..." Pres
CTRL-ALT-DEL to re-boot.

And well I have not been able to re-boot. Setup sees the hard disk.

I tried re-installing WinXP from the CD. It sees the HD and the 2
partitions and states that the main partition is an unknown format.
the secondary partition is recognised as NTFS.

Any ideas on how I can access my drive? and more importantly get my
computer running again......

Thanks

I take it you mean a 100GB, not Mb?

If you dont have something like partition magic rescue disk to getbooted,
you might have to either put the drive in another PC and see if it can be
accessed, or put another drive in your PC, install XP on that, and then
access the old disk to retrieve whats on it.
