getting error "a thread tried to release a resource it did not own" loading xp

i am trying to install windows xp pro on a machine with
amd xp3200 processor and 2 1gb ram chips, an I get the
message "a thread tried to release a resource it did not
own" during setup. I rebooted and finished setup, but
now I cant access the device manager or the start menu.
 
So, you got a corrupt install. Start over with only 1 RAM stick in the
computer. If N.G., try the other RAM stick.
The system will never work correctly, as it is now!

Test the RAM. Failures to install MS operating systems are usually
because of faulty hardware. For RAM, I like Memtest86. Allow the test
to run for an extended period, like overnight (unless you see errors
right away, of course).
