Game crashing

My computer freezes about 10 minutes into any game I begin to play. The only games I have installed at present are GTAIII, The Sims and Baldur's Gate 2. When running other applications such as IE and word, there are no problems, just when I run games, which are being run at a pretty low spec, despite the fact my PC has the capability of running all 3 with considerable ease. The problem may be to do with programs running on start-up, yet when I open task manager, CPU usage is minimal (4 or 5%). My graphics card (as I hear this is a common cause) is an NVIDIA Riva TNT2.

Thanks for any help

Could be either your video card drivers.
Could be the direct x version your using.
Could be a heat problem, since during gaming the processor heats up
considerably.

I would update your video drivers. Install direct x version that your card
supports. Most likely dx8, but if it supports dx9 try that. If it doesn't
support dx9 and you already installed dx9, I would go back to dx8.
Also add some more fans, can't hurt.
