freeing up disk space

In an effort to free up disk space I see that in the add/remove programs area there is a lot of memory being taking up by the Windows xp hotfix files. Am I able to remove these once they are installed or are they now part of my OS and I need to keep them to run under my current status?

Hi,

"Hotfixes" are the updates you installed from the Windows Update
website. Do not be tempted to remove them or you will uninstall
the actual updates.

If you wish to safely remove the "uninstall files" for the
Hotfixes (i.e. $NtUninstallQxxxxxx$ files shown in Windows Explorer)
and cleanup your Add/Remove Programs list, visit MS-MVP Doug Knox's
excellent website for instructions.
