I am having a serious problem with my computer. I first
found com surrogate with zone alarm pro after a brand new
install of windows xp pro, norton and zone alarm pro on a
new machine. I blocked this and called microsoft. I then
downloaded and installed fixes for windows media player,
two other viruses and have several spybot programs
running.
After serveral tries we thought the system was again
stable and could then be reinstalled safely with windows
xp pro. After new install, I found that a program took
control was telling Windows xp to install to a null
location and has installed a second shell (appears to be
2 -3 shells on my stand alone system. This (unknown)
program has also hidden itself on (e) drive in the same
partition (there is only one partition with two shells in
it) I tried to unregister all of the null items of which
windows media player is one and was able to, I could not
reinstall windows xp due to the fact there is a boot
sector telling my windows xp setup to allow NT to install
the xp and directs it to another location. This program
uses either of my main accounts to load and run programs,
it has a fast boot while causing windows xp to wait 30
seconds to boot.
If I type in cmd, I find that I can type in set and
change some items althought they only last for the reboot
then I am asked which profile to use. I need to create a
new profile and somehow direct windows xp to do a
complete format of the harddisk without any prompts. I
put in the prompts section
(/q /noprompt /forcefreshinstall) this seemed to want to
work, then asked me which profile and I reset not wanting
to allow NT to take over again. this (unknown) program
has also taken over and disabled my security settings,
added its own security settings which blocks xp from
getting into that section, appears to hide behind a fake
dvd area with a dvd place holder in c:\windows\system32\
I have tried to delete this item and it is just put back
again. my only success has been to unregister the null
items while keeping all windows xp and user items
registered. If I try to use the hard drive utility, it
instructs that utility to only zero out the later section
nothing else.
I need a few things, I need a good set of registry hives
for windows xp, the security setup and some sort of
switches to force xp fresh install. Has anyone had any
experience with this?
If I cant find the answer here, my next step is to bring
the computer up to a security/programmer specialties
company.
(please dont tell me about security, I was as secure as I
could have been. something got in before I could get the
updates installed!)
Thanks in advance
