Is it possible to force a process to stop in WinXP, regardless of the
outcome?

Occasionally I'll have an app fail and leave a process running in the
background. No matter how many times I try to end the process, it keeps
running. I don't get any denied messages, it just doesn't go away.

Usually it's related to an odd peice of hardware... For example I currently
have "WinDVD.exe" in the background using about 40% of my processor because
my TV Tuner software crashed. It's refusing to go away. I can't reboot
because I have a two hour process running that's only half done.

Suggestions???

Thx!

Hi David,

Wazzup? In thoughts of this post, is there a script to be written to end a
particular process in needs as this, as he knows it happens often?

If using pro type taskkill in help.

TASKKILL /f /t /pid 3088
SUCCESS: The process with PID 3088 child of PID 1072 has been terminated.

Tried, but still WinDVR.EXE (PID 3088) refuses to die. It says the parent
task is Explorer (PID 1072)... haven't tried ending that as I don't want to
trash my desktop right now.

Thanks anyhow!

If using pro type taskkill in help.

Kiling Explorer is not that bad, just kill it and restart explorer.exe...
that is like a little wonder each time is use this method ;) like a reboot
:)

Still running...

Not the end of the world, but I'd like to know why and how it manages to
avoid being killed!
