i don't know much or anything about firewalls. I have the
one in XP turned on. I used to be able to download from
Winmx p2p, but now I can't . I just turned the firewall
off, now I can. Is there a way I can turn the firewall
on, but allow downloads from Winmx. Thanks

Change your security settings in Internet Explorer to allow the downloads.
Turn your Firewall on.

xp's firewall is only half a firewall. get a good, better,
free one like zonealarm at zonelabs.com
and scan for spywares too with spybot from
safer-networking.org

Hello

find out what port winmx is trying to connect to then
open that port in your firewall

thus you still have your wall up and only have 1 hole for
mx to go through

first thing is you're going to have to find out what TCP
and UDP ports WinMX uses and then you need open those
ports by clicking on the "Settings" button under the same
tab where you enabled the Firewall - you might have to
add a new service - (call it WinMX)up to you...hope this
helps

Never go online without a firewall, and using a p2p system on top of it
is even worse. Your system is probably already infested with all kinds
of adware and other malware nasties. Learn about safe computing.
