Hello fellow Guru's,
I am networking 8 PC's all running either XP Home or Pro.
My question is: Can I not set user permissions and passwords to files
shared over the Network under a "Windows Workgroup"? I am not familiar with
setting up Domains and the such and if that is the only route to set specific
limitations on files, then maybe some information on "Domains" would be
useful and greatly appreciated.

Thanx Everyone in advance!

Linkin,

A workgroup will work quite well for sharing files. Depending upon how many
files you share, and how differently each person trusts each other, you MAY,
however, find that a domain makes more sense.

If you have XP Home computers, though, you may as well stick with a workgroup,
as XP Home computers cannot join a domain. I've written several articles which
may enlighten you.

You may employ ACLs. Run cacls.exe to tie permissions to users and files.
