I know how to password protect individual word and excel files, but can I
place losts of different files in a folder (including doc xl jpeg wmv txt
etc) and then password protect the whole folder and all the files in it?

if so, how do I do it?

thanx

Hi,

Go thru the web link on How To set password for Compressed (Zipped) Folders
in Windows XP at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306531

You can encrypt the folder using EFS Encryption File system. No other users
can access.

Thanks,

Like Win2K, WinXP's file security paradigm doesn't rely on, or
allow, the cumbersome method of password protection for individual
applications, files, or folders. Instead, it uses the superior method
of explicitly assigning file/folder permissions to individual users
and/or groups.

Of course, if you have WinXP Pro, you can encrypt the desired

As a crude work-around, if you actually prefer Win9x's way, you
can place the file in a compressed folder, and set a password to
uncompress the folder to view/access its contents.

But be VERY careful to back up the 'Encryption certificates' off the
machine. Otherwise after any reinstall you will not be able to restore
them and the files will be totally inaccessible.

Also realise that encrypted files are fully transparent to the user who
owns them, so are no more secure than his logon username and password
