File does not exist

When I try to open a file on my notebook by clicking on its name in the
explorer I get a 'File does not exist" error message. I have to open it
from within the program. I found a partial answer to this problem in a
newsgroup where I learned that this can arrive when the file name
encloses spaces. In fact, after dropping the spaces in the file name I
could open it with a double click in the explorer window.

But dropping all spaces in my file names can't be the solution as on my
desktop I can open files with file names including spaces without any
difficulty. And as I don"t want to change file names just to use them on
another PC I would like to find the real solution.

Thanks

Just enclose the file name in double quotes while you are in XP.
This will take care of spaces or other characters.

Thanks for this help.
And why does this happen on my notebook and not on the desktop. Are the
different version of XP a reason? I run the notebook on win xp SP1 and
the desktop on sp2.
