I have recently joined an office where all the hard disks use FAT32,on hard
drives of 80Gb. Would it not be better to convert to NTFS or stay as FAT 32

Personally, I wouldn't even consider using FAT32 when NTFS is an
option. FAT32 has no security capabilities, no compression
capabilities, no fault tolerance, and a lot of wasted hard drive space
on volumes larger than 8 Gb in size. But your computing needs may
vary, and there is no hard and fast answer.

To answer your questions without getting too technical is
difficult, but has been handled quite well by Alex Nichol in the
article here:

Somewhat more technical information is here:

That is what my sentiments are do not use FAT if NTfs available. I fyou could
suggest a place for a more techincal explanation as I am not the admin person
but need to suggest to him why he should use NTFS.
Thanks Andrew

NTFS, without doubt. More robust, much less likely to fail, makes
more efficient use of huge partitions (like 80GB), allows use of
WinXP's advanced security capabilities.

Are all the computers using Windows XP? NTFS is unsuitable for any with
Windows 98!

See my page www.aumha.org/win5/a/ntfs.htm At that size of drive, and
in an Office environment, NTFS would probably be worth it. But also
read the linked page on Conversion.
