Windows XP Home SP2

User A turns computer on and logs in. User B then uses fast switching and
logs in. User A returns uses fast switching and then logs out. User B
returns and Windows firewall now reports that antivirus is not on (NAV 2003)
although NAV says it's on.

I've noticed that the first user (User A) has many more processes running
(as reported by Task Manager) than a subsequent user (user B) that logs on
while User A is still logged in.

This all normal?

Fast User Switching is another "Nice" idea that in practice isn't worth it.
If your machine has minimal memory (256 or lower), FUS will cause the
system performance to lag noticeably. Best to turn it off and just use a
straightforward Log off. In addition, for a shared PC get the Logoff
Screensaver that closes applications, saves data and places the PC at
the Welcome screen. This way users don't inadvertently end up using the
wrong profile.

The problem is NAV (2003 is several versions behind now and is not fully
compatible with XPSP2... oh, it will run, and will probably work fine
for a single user at a time, but Fast User Switching and the Security
Center aren't going to deal with it quite properly). Either upgrade, or
replace it. Personally, I find the free AVG Anti virus to be just fine
for my needs, and it's fully compatible with SP2.
