New Dell PC with XP Pro. Cannot copy and paste, drag and
drop or use Send-To menu to back up files to a CD in the
my CD/DVD burner. Msg is "Can't find drive" Dell came
onsite and replaced the burner drive. Then told me it's
not the burner, I have to format the hard drive.

I don't believe it. The burner reads everything ok and
will record to CD if I use Sonic RecordNow Data project.
But that is a lot more work than copy, drag or Send-To.

Any ideas???

Just some ideas, that's all

Check the properties of the CD Burner drive and click on the recording tab. If
the check mark to enable recording is checked, uncheck it and hit apply and then
recheck it and hit apply.
Tried that. I do not have a Recording tab in the drive
properties, and none of the tabs have enything
like "Enable CD recording". At Properties, Hardware,
Properties there is a box to enable Digital for audio,
clearly states effects audio CD recording only. Doesn't
matter whether box is checked or not.

Thanks again

Sorry I couldn't help. As it's a new computer it would be covered under
warranty. Contact them again and keep on trying to get the situation fixed
whilst it's under warranty.

busTRACE Technologies has developed a simple utility that allows you to view

If you are using a driver from the manufacturer of the drive and not the
driver that is supplied by Microsoft, make sure that you have the driver
available. You may need to remove the driver and reinstall it if it has
become corrupted.

There is no disc in the drive. Please insert a writable CD into drive.

Previous Post:

Had a problem in XP where I couldn't explore any disk in my DVD
writer. Unchecked "Enable CD recording on this drive" in the
PROPERTIES/RECORDING window, and now can access the disk normally

In the Device Manager, highlight the drive: On the Action menu, click Scan
for hardware changes.

Good luck!
