I'm trying to do a File And Settings Transfer Wizard save to multiple CD-Rs on a Dell Inspiron 600m. When the first disk is full, I get an error that the disk is full, and if I put a new disk in, it attempts to start over again instead of asking for a 2d disk.

Windows XP Backup does not have the capability to span multiple CDs
(record from one to another) during a backup operation. When using
Windows XP Backup, the total size of the backup file must not exceed
the formatted capacity of the CD (approximately 533MB). If you need to
backup an entire drive or a system volume exceeding 533 MB, you need
to use a third party backup and restore program designed to span the file
over multiple CDs.

You'll need a third-party CD Recording program, such as Nero,
in order to record and span the F.A.S.T. USMT file to multiple CDs.

Well, I didn't ask about XP Backup, but I appreciate the information (a blind alley I needn't go down). I'm asking about XP F.A.S.T. Wizard, which according to what I have read (for example http://aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm) is supposed to automatically span multiple CD-Rs

You do know that in order for FAST to span CDs, you have to use packet
writing. That means formatting the CDR or CDRW using software such
as DirectCD or InCD. Even at that, according to the article not all
drives are supported. Refer to paragraph 2 under
F.A.S.T. Supports....
