Does anyone have a "cure" for the poor quality images exported from
Powerpoint 2002 (running on Windows XP)? Standard fonts (ariel, verdana
etc...) get extremely pixalated / unusable.

Check here for additional information on exporting with PPTs native
capabilities:

Also check into these two add-ins that dramatically improve exported images:

You ask for a bitmap, you get a dogbitmap. Sigh. Yup.
Upgrading to 2003 won't help, by the way. Same problem.

You'll have to export at higher resolution then downsample the resulting images
to the final size you want. I like IrfanView (www.irfanview.com ) for this;
it's fast, you can run it from the command line so it can be used in a bat file
if you need to do this kind of thing often, and you can't beat the price: $0
for personal use.

Improve PowerPoint's GIF, BMP, PNG, JPG export resolution

Excellent!!
