explorer.exe trouble

I run XP Pro, not a new install, but recently received error message on "Windows Explorer" after booting beyond the users sign-on screen. I can boot thru in safe mode, have tried restore points to no avail, even though restores complete successfully.

I need info on how to proceed with repair job, hopefully without totally reinstalling. Seems like a registry deal...?

Hi,

Start/run "sfc /scannow" and have your WinXP CD handy for the system file
integrity check.
