Hi,

I am having problems with my Windows explorer file
manager, everytime I go into a directory containing large
size files the explorer will immediately brings up the
crash warning and need to be shut down. The computer is
otherwise fine and does not need resetting after the
explorer closes. I have installed service pack 2 and
have done a virus scan with Norton. Checking the memory
I see that the svchost.exe process is chewing up alot of
memory as well as explorer.exe, the page file is around
160-180 megs.

I would appreciate any input thanks.

Malicious software often hooks itself into Windows Explorer because
explorer.exe is running all the time. If the malware is badly written,
it can crash explorer.exe. I suggest you download Ad-aware SE Personal
edition from www.lavasoft.com and scan your computer and see if it finds
any malware. Spybot Search & Destroy is another good free tool to scan
for spyware. Ignore the DSO Exploit false alarm.

Panda and Trend Micro have good online anti-virus scanners that might
pick up something your onboard scanner didn't find.

Let us know what you find, if anything.
