I keep getting this event and as a result, my user's are
not recieving the appropriate rights from AD. Though the
KB says its related to DNS I am unable to find anything
wrong with the configurations on both the XP station and
win2k server.

If anyone could assist it would be GREATLY appreciated!

It'd be helpful if you could include the text of that ID,
I for one don't know off the top of my head.
What is the configuration for DNS on your network? The
XP client should point to ONLY your internal DNS server
(usually your domain controller), and not your ISP's.

You should then open the DNS Administrative tool on the
domain controller, and add a DNS forwarder pointing to
your ISP's DNS server (check the help file for more
information on how to do this).

The exact message was listed as a USERENV:

"Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your
computer network. (WSAStartup cannot function at this time
because the underlying system it uses to provide network
services is currently unavailable. ). Group Policy
processing aborted."

I have already implemented the configuration you
recommended below and can use NSLOOKUP to locate the DC in
the domain. I am able to connect to the domain at login
and with the Domain Administrator account I can access the
AD. That's why i am having so much trouble, everything
seems to be working except the propagation of the group
policy to this station. I also have a Win98 station on the
same domain and it is working perfectly.

Win98 behavior is not relevant as it does not join a domain.
Have you tried, logged into the DC, running (from support tools)
netdiag
and also
dcdiag
These should come up clean without errors, and any
errors should be resolved.
