Hi!

I'm trying to begin evaluating Windows XP Embedded, but encounters errors
during the
installation of the kit.

When installing the tools, it gets to "TAImporter.dll", but failes. The
error in the
installer gives no HRESULT, but if I run regsvr32 from the command line,I
get
HRESULT 0x80004005. The same applies for UIUtils.dll and importfw.dll.

I try to install it on Windows XP, all patched up.

Anyone knows why? Thanks for any help.

Regards,
Lars

Lars,

How do you know that the install gets to "TAImporter.dll"? What error you saw (MessageBox?)? Can you attach the window screenshot?

"Windows XP, all patched up" - is it XP (Pro) SP1, SP2?

Just in case, check if all the dependencies of the Dlls you mentioend are in your OS. This would be strange if not all are there but
still worth to check.

Lars,

Really strange.

Did you install XPe PS1 Toolkit first?

You can download Dependency Walker tool from www.dependencywalker.com.

Also, make sure you are not running any AV software during the install.

KM

Hi,

please see the attached screen shot. By "All patched up", I mean Win XP
Pro SP2.
Windows Update reports no updates available (critical or recommended).

The same dialog appears for UIUtils and importfw.

How can I check the dependencies, by the way? When I come to think of it,
I've only
done that in Linux, I think.... :/

Thanks,
Lars Ove

Hi, KM.

I cannot turn off the AV-software, we are using a corporate system that
won't
allow me to boot without it, no matter what.... (argh..)! (We use Norman
AV).

That being said, the AV has never caused problems with any other
installations.

I did get a dependency failure, actually it reported that it was missing
"msjava.dll". I got ahold of that file, and put it into windows\system32,
and
now it reports

"Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing
export
function in a delay-load dependent module."

The file is MPR.DLL. This one exists on the system. The function is
WNetRestoreConnectionA().

Think it's strange, though, that Microsoft would ship anything that is
based
on MS Java these days. Should it be necessary to get the whole MS
Java-package?
I cannot find it anywhere, it doesn't seem to be available on the MS Web
anymore,
at least.

I really appreciate the help so far. Keep the suggestions coming, if you
have
more.. :/ Kind of lost...

Thanks,
Lars Ove

BTW;

The package I try to install now is XPe SP1. SP2 is an upgrade after I have
installed the SP1, as far as I've understood?

Lars,

Well.. There have been known issues reported with the XPe ToolKit (and its installation) if AV is running.
Frankly, I have always had a corporate AV (OfficeScan) running here also and did not have problems so far. But who knows.
I know that sometimes it is hard to disable it because of corporate policy.

Anyway, don't pay attention to MPR.dll. It is usual warning.

I did not get quite what component gave you MSjava.dll dependency? Could you tell us the dll file name that showed that dependency?
If it is really there, you are better off installing MS Java then (not just copying the file).

Lars,

Yes, that is correct order. SP1 first.

Hi,

It was the Depenency Walker that gave me the missing depenency, in a
"Fail to load missing dependency file"-kind of error. It disappeared once
I copied in the msjava.dll.

If I misunderstood you, and you wanted to know which dll that gave me
the missing dependency; it was TAImporter.dll.

Do you know if I can get the full package somewhere?

I managed to get ahold of MS Java (although probably not from a quite
official
link anymore...). It did not help, unfortunately.....

Is there any difference on the evaluation kit opposed to the commercial
package?
I could of course take the chance and go ahead and buy it. If it is
possible
that it would install better...

Lars,

Even though MS has removed MS Java download from www.microsoft.com a long while ago, it is still available on Internet.
You seemed to have found it anyway.

It is absolutely unclear to me why you see msjava.dll in the list of dependencies of TAImporter.dll. It should not be there (and it
is not there on my machine).

You can certainly get the Full XPe ToolKit Package from an XPe distributor (e.g., BSquare Corp, www.bsquare.com).
But it will unlikely help you. There is very slight differences between Eval and Full version and no differences (except text) in
installations.

Also, just in case check what version of WSH you've got. It better be 5.6.

And one more thought, have you tried to download the Eval kit again? Maybe you got broken bits last time.

Just got an idea on what you saw..
If you saw msjava.dll missing as a part of MSHTML.dll, forget about it.

That was indeed what I saw...

I've tried downloading the package about 10 times, to all sorts of
locations, with
and without spaces in the path and local and networked disks and you
wouldn't know
what. Didn't help..

Just updated WSH, don't know if what I had was 5.6 but at least it is now.
Didn't help, unfortunately...

Right now, I'm considering reinstalling my entire workstation from scratch,
actually...

Blah. Maybe I should try Linux embedded? :)

Lars,

I am sorry you have to put so much effort just to install the toolkit. Frankly, this is the first time I hear about issues with
registering XPe ToolKit Dlls. That should not be a problem at all.
It must be some software on your machine (could be MS SP2 :-) ) that prevents you to work with those Dlls.
(I assumed you ran the installation from an admin account so no permissions issues).

Anyway, when you re-install everything, start with XPP SP1. Don't yet upgrade to SP2. You can do that any time later after you
install the XPe ToolKit.

OK,

thanks for your effort in trying to help me. Really appreciate it. I will
figure out some kind of way out of this!
