Error Code 0x80090006 - preventing XP from accurately checking the license

Any ideas on what to do about this one? Reinstall XP? I
merely added some memory to a friend's Compaq Presario.

"A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking
the license for this computer. Error Code 0x80090006"

Thanks for any help.

You can do an inplace upgrade on the machine and reactivate it that way.
You may be able to call the clearinghouse and have them try a new activation
code as well.
