Hi there

I'm using WinXP Pro with Office XP.

When I click the mailto linkin IE6 my default mail
program no longer boots to create a new message. Even if
it's open, I get a 'page cannot be displayed' error. This
happens if I set the default mail program to either
Outlook or Outlook Express.

If I type mailto: after clicking the 'run' button, I do
get a new screen with a blank email message.

Tried a couple of solutions suggested in the Knowledge
Base, like manually changing the URL:Mailto Protocol
under Folder Options in Windows Explorer, and deletin the
Outlook cache, but to no avail.

Weird, huh?

Anyone got any ideas or solutions?

Mick

Mick,

This has something to do with the MailTo Protocol settings, rather than MailTo associations. Type in REGSVR32 /i MSHTML in the RUN box.

You're welcome, Mick. In short, it fixes the Mail To Protocol settings in the registry. In detail, see below:

Fixes:
1/ Microsoft HTML Mailto Pluggable Protocol (the handler)
2/ MailTo Protocol setting (pointing to the handler above)

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Handler\mailto]
Sets CLSID to the correct value, which is "{3050f3DA-98B5-11CF-BB82-00AA00BDCE0B}"

Once Mail To protocol values are processsed, Iexplore.exe (as you're experiencing the problem in IE) then checks for mailto: file association.
