Hello:
I have been working on a computer that was unable to browse the web.
One thing led to another, and I got webpages working for the first
five or ten minutes the computer was on, so I tried to get its windows
updates, but kept getting errors. on a site I read, it suggested I
run the sfc utility to try and repair the updates problem. when doing
so, it asked for the windows xp cd. since I did not have the cd that
came with the computer on hand, I used my own xp cd to run sfc. then
when I booted again, I got error 0x80070002, a problem is preventing
windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Now
all I can do is log in in safe mode, every other way I try to log in
results in this error. I read in google.groups and on the web a few
places about a registry fix as suggested by a microsoft KB article,
but the registry keys that article talks about do not exist. and
there is another article I read that said to delete the wpa.* files,
which also did not work for me. I tried a few other things as
suggested on the web, plus discussed with some colleagues, no good
ideas came from that. so I had a computer that couldn't get online,
and now I have a computer that I can't log into. I am trying very
much to avoid the nuke and pave. If anyone has any suggestions, I
would very much appreciate hearing them...
