Emptying Recycle Bin

Helen Arnoldus

In March and April I deleted over 18 mg. of files consisting of .txt; log;
..exe; .rra; .dll; hpi, etc. from various temp folders on my drive. These
files have been in my recycle bin since them. Is it OK to empty my recycle
bin now?

If there has been no adverse effects on your system for that length of time
from deleting, and you don't need any of the files for a specific reason,
then certainly you should be able to empty them from the recycle bin.

Don is right.

If you had no problems till now after deleting this files, then go ahead and
empty it.

I did make backup copies of these files before sending them to the Recycle
Bin. I guess I'm a little paranoid. I believe it's better to be safe than
sorry.

Yep, smart move, always better safe than sorry!!

I image my complete system to an external usb2 hard drive weekly, and store
it away someplace safe...

I know if something screwy happens, or I manage to really mess up my system,
I will only lose at the most a week's worth of stuff.

Helen,

While it is safe to remove temporary files after a couple of days and files
that have appeared in the Temp folder. Log files amy get very large and so
it is a good idea to open them and see what they are for. Unless they are
installation logs needed for program uninstallation, usually you can delete
them but open them first to see what they are for.

If the other files are not in a temporary folder don't delete them.

If you are bothered on this subject because of lack of disk space, buy a
reliable cleanup product like Iolo's "System Mechanic" http://www.iolo.com/
You can then set it up to clean out junk, keep it in zipped form for a time
you choose an finally get rid of it.

How would I know if the .log file is needed for program uninstallation. Most
of these files are installation information.
