Email hyperlink click launches 20+ blank IE windows

I have a user who whenever they click on an e-mail address
hyperlink ends up launching 20 or 30 blank internet
explorer windows with "Mailto: (e-mail address removed)" in the
address box. IE6, Win2K, Micorsoft outlook specified as IE
mail program. Anyone know wassup?

Re-assert OL as the default Mail Client and then reassociate MailTo Protocol
to OL. You must do both.

Thank you. That's what I had tried before - re-asserting
OL - however I neglected to go back and check whether it
had "stuck"... which it hadn't. Apparently my NT login did
not have administrative rights to that machine - the
[ie/tools/internet options/programs/mail program] remained
blank and [we/tools/folder options/file types] had
no "url:mailto" association.

When I made the change using an appropriate administrator
account, the problem was solved.

The fact that typically no "You do not have rights to make
this change" type message appears in cases like this can
cause lots of confusion!!
