eliminate option to choose WinXP or Win98 on boot

I installed XP Home for a friend on his computer that was running Win98SE.
He'd like to try it awhile before deciding if he wants to stick with XP or
uninstall and go back to Win98. Is there a way to eliminate the point in
the boot where we can select to boot to XP or Win98? He wants to just go to
XP for now. All I could think of was modifying the MSDOS.SYS file but I
haven't done that in years. Changing the BootMulti from 1 to 0 didn't do
it. Maybe change the WinDir and WinBootDir to the directory with WinXP?

Thanks in advance
Marcie

Hi Marcie,

Start/run msconfig, go to the boot.ini tab. Click on the line that loads
WinXP, click 'set as default'. This will set XP as the default boot. You can
remove the Win98 reference by directly editing the boot.ini file (on the
root of the boot drive), but it's hardly necessary.

Hi Marcie
Go to system propertys, click advance tab , click on the startup and
recovery tab and uncheck the box at top that says time to list operating
systems.
Hope this helps.

In XP you do it by editing the C:\Boot.ini file. Edit that at Control
Panel - System - Advanced, in Startup and Error, click Settings.

You can then click Edit to load the file to Notepad and delete the two
lines relating to Win98; but it might be better in the circumstances to
make sure that the XP item is the default, and then cut the time of
display of the menu down from the default 30 seconds to one or two
