Used EFS without reading up on it..
If there was a way to do what you were asking for the common user (or even
the advanced user) then EFS would be worthless, right?

I am afraid that since you did not export the key, you are pretty much
without those files.

Formatting process warns you that all data will be lost

Guess you weren't looking at your screen

You are now stuck with a Computer and blank hard disk

If you purchased a legitimate copy of XP then the Product Key will be on the cover of the CD envelope or if it was installed on the PC then you should find a Microsoft Logo affixed to the case, that will have the Product Key on it

Failing that you need to hi ho off to a shop and pay money for a new Full Product Licence, or if you have another Windows product installation CD, then you can buy the Upgrade Edition.

BAR,

I am afraid you missed the gist of the entire original post.
Please re-read and comment as needed.

Your data is most likely permanently gone.

it would only take 3 minutes, if you simply scheduled automatic routine
backups.

Routine scheduled automatic backups is so simple to set up with MS Backup,
there is simply no excuse anymore for not having daily backups.

How does anything you said relate to this post?
