dvdrw thinks its a cdrw

I have put a sata hard drive into my pc and I upgraded the bios on my motherboard then reinstalled windows xp pro
but since then my pioneer A06 only sees cd's when I put a blanck dvd-r or retail dvd film into it, the drive just spins and does nothing
the dvdrw worked perfectly until my old hard disk failed

Try updating the DVDRW firmware.

Also using a DVD lens cleaner disk may help.

Sorry, don't have a link to the firmware updates, but doing a search for 'Pioneer DVD' should reap rewards. As I remember, updating firmware for my A06 was a fairly painless process.
 
does it read normal dvd's? such as a film or something of the sort?

definetly updating the firmware is a good start to solving this problem
