I want to make copies of my daughter's dvd's for safe
keeping. I don't know what is a good software program.
On my computer I think I have something called
"Nero". Is this a good software for copying movies.
I have been looking on the web and one I saw mentioned a
couple times over is 1 click DVD copy.
But since I think I already have Nero - does that do a
good job? Thanks.

Commercial DVD movies are often much larger than 4.7GB, and feature copy
protection. Both of these obstacles will stump Nero. Instead, try the
combination of DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink (both freeware) as described
here: http://www.dvdr-digest.com/articles/articles.php?article_id=23

Copying commercial DVDs is not as quick and easy as copying audio CDs, but
if you follow the instructions at that link (print them out beforehand)
you should have no problem. It depends how powerful your system is, but
it can take many hours to copy a single movie.

Regards,
Ian.

DVD Decrypter and Nero will also work. Nero can handle anything once it is
in Video_ts and Audio_ts format.

Okay, I aleady have Nero, what do I just download DVD
Decrypter and then it works, or do I have to do something
to make them work together. I am brand new at this sort
of thing. But I wanted a computer with a DVD burner just
for this reason. She has a habit of stepping on her
movies and I thought this way I could keep the original
safe and sound. Thanks.

You would create the copy with Decrypter and then use Recode to create the
backup. Remember that most production DVDs are 8.5GB, so the copy will not
be as high a resolution in many cases. www.videohelp.com has instructions
and links to applicable applications for backing up DVDs.

Okay, I just downloaded DeCrypter. I wasn't sure which
place to download it from, just chose the top one!!! Now
what is "Recode" and where do I get that? Do I not use my
Nero software at all to do this? Thanks.

Recode is part of the Nero 6 suite. It is in the NeroVision Express folder
under Nero in Start, All Programs.

I don't know if I have the full version of Nero. Mine
isn't called Nero 6 suite. It is called Nero Express 6,
not Nerovision. So if I have to buy a definitive program,
which program should I buy to burn DVD movies?
I don't have anything called Nero under start - it is
under "burn DVD's". Someone told me I didn't have
software to burn DVD's, but then I thought I did. I can
call Gateway to be sure. But again, what would be a good
program to buy but not cost an arm and a leg. Thanks.

What was the full title of your DVD Nero. Did it come
with your DVD burner or was it a software you had to buy.
I have read a little about the I Click DVD copy and was
wondering how good that one was. I am not good at this
kind of thing, so I want one I can just put it and run
with it. Thanks.

What was the full name of your Nero and would it copy
Disney movies and other copyrighted dvd's?

If you do not have the full package (of Nero), then go back to Ionizer's
response. DVD Shrink is explained at Videohelp.com also.
